The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) honored Hubbell Communications at their annual awards reception last Thursday with a Public Affairs Spotlight Award.

Account Executives Hannah Rogers and Kara Hansen were recognized by PRSA’s Portland Metro Chapter for their work on America’s Health Insurance Plans’ Coalition for Medicare Choices (CMC) “Seniors are Watching” grassroots campaign.

Hubbell Communications worked on behalf of CMC to identify and activate Medicare Advantage (MA) beneficiaries in Oregon. Through strategically planned earned media opportunities, community events and meetings with legislators, local MA beneficiaries urged legislators to fight proposed cuts and rules by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that would lead to increased premiums, reduced benefits and/or loss of familiar, trusted providers.

Together with similar efforts in other states, Hubbell’s grassroots mobilization efforts in Oregon prompted seniors, health care stakeholders and a bipartisan group of more than 275 members from both houses of Congress to mobilize and speak out against the proposed cuts. On April 7, 2014 CMS released final payment rates for Medicare Advantage that reduced the proposed cuts.

Each October, the PRSA Portland Metro Chapter recognizes the outstanding work done by public relations professionals across our region. Winners have demonstrated excellence in research, planning, execution and evaluation in creating outstanding programs, campaigns, and tactics.

This is the third award Hubbell Communications has received for its ongoing work for the Coalition for Medicare Choices.
