Kara Hansen, Vice President
At Hubbell Communications: Kara Hansen joined Hubbell Communications in early 2014 after spending a decade working as an award-winning news reporter and editor in the Pacific Northwest. While she provides support for a variety of projects at the firm, she specializes in writing and media relations, identifying possibilities for stories, interviews, photos and opinion pieces and working with local media outlets to help clients take advantage of those opportunities.
Background: Kara honed her skills in journalism at the University of Oregon, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree and worked for the Oregon Daily Emerald newspaper, and with internships in Spokane, Wash., and on the Oregon coast. She landed her first full-time news media job straight out of college, covering education, the U.S. Coast Guard and general assignments at The Daily Astorian, before taking a job with Pamplin Media Group, where she wrote about a range of topics while serving as News Editor of the Lake Oswego Review and Assistant Editor of the West Linn Tidings.
After Hours: Kara enjoys hiking, whether that means taking short trips in the Columbia River Gorge or going on backcountry adventures in the Wallowas, and playing recreational volleyball. She’s on the leadership team for SuperThank, a nonprofit organization that hosts live storytelling events and produces a radio program aiming to spread gratitude throughout the community. On weekends, you’ll often find her enjoying local restaurants and bars and exploring Portland’s thriving music scene.
